The next 2025 Edition of the TECHNART will be held in Perugia, Italy, jointly organized by the Italian Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR-SCITEC and CNR-ISPC) and the University of Perugia.

TECHNART is a key biennial International Conference dedicated to showcasing and promoting advancements in analytical techniques applied to heritage science, including art, archaeology and the broader field of cultural heritage conservation. Since its first 2007 edition in Lisbon, the conference has been hosted in cities such as Athens, Berlin, Amsterdam, Catania, Bilbao, Bruges, and most recently, in Lisbon in 2023.

The meeting, which usually joins together around 400 participants from all over the world, is an outstanding opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience on cutting-edge research and innovative approaches in the multi- and inter-disciplinary field of scientific methodologies for the study of nature, properties and alterations of heritage materials (including pigments, stones, metals, glass, ceramics, proteins, lipids, and other natural and synthetic organic materials), or for data storage and processing, or also for the knowledge and advancement of conservation and prevention standards.

In the city of Perugino

The city of Perugia, today capital of the Umbria Region, has been an important centre of the Etruscan civilization, starting from the VI century BCE. During the Renaissance, starting from the XV century, the city was one of the most relevant centres of the Italian culture. In Perugia had their birth master painters, such as Pietro Vannucci (known as Il Perugino), Bernardino of Betto (known as Il Pinturicchio), Bartolomeo Caporali and others. Raphael himself lived in Perugia for a period of five years, before moving to Florence and Rome. Some of his works, committed by the richest families of Perugia, are well known, as for example the Ansidei Altarpiece (1505, now in the National Gallery, London) or the Baglioni Altarpiece (1507, now in the Borghese Gallery, Rome).

Perugia is home to one of Italy’s oldest universities (the University of Perugia was founded in 1307), and a more recent University for Foreign Students, that together give it a lively international and youthful character.  Nowadays Perugia is also renowned for the prestigious international Umbria Jazz Festival and the Eurochocolate festival, celebrating its long-standing tradition in chocolate-making.
